The solid wood hull has been immaculately painted and the multitude of deck and superstructure fittings is all finely executed. ‘Avonfield’ (1953) was, at the time, a large vessel at 11,310 tons gross. Part of the largest independently-owned British tanker fleet of the 1950s, she was one of a group of ten petroleum carriers built between 1950 and 1955. ‘Avonfield’ was built by William Doxford and Son, Sunderland, for Eden Tankers Ltd.
