Equipment model; Anchor model
Scale: Unknown. A model of a Hutchens portable anchor, (1846), made entirely in iron. The shank is round in section, tapers toward the top, and is made from two longitudinal lengths of iron, bound with four hoops. The top of the shank is rounded and there is a D-ring shackle that swivels on a round-headed rivet. Immediately below it, the topmost hoop which is more substantial than the others, forms part of the stock. The stock's arms and the ring are cast, or forged, in a single piece. At either end of the stock are two button-shaped pieces of metal that are integral to the casting. The bottom of the crown is convex and is formed by the two bottom parts of the shank that each have a small circular hole bored through them. Sandwiched between the two parts of the shank, and also forming part of the crown, are the crescent-shaped arms. The arms terminate in a pair of conventionally shaped flukes, the palm of one of which is inscribed: 'Relics of the Royal George sunk 1782 raised 1840'.
