Warship
Scale: 1:4?. An accommodation model of an officer's cabin as fitted to all ships in the Royal Navy circa 1860. The model has been made entirely of wood, and painted, stained and grained in realistic colours and finishes. The cabin is fitted with a swinging cot, two wall-mounted book shelves, two chests of drawers, a wash stand, and a wall-mounted drop-down table. The model shows the cabin in relation to the structure of the vessel. The external hull is painted black, the bulkheads forming two walls of the cabin are painted pale green, the upper faces of the deck beams and the planking of the upper deck have been grained to simulate oak, and the visible parts of the deck beams from the cabin itself are painted white. A large section of upper deck has been removed to show the cabin more clearly. Between the four deck beams there are two ventilators and a port hole.
The cabin is enclosed on its open side by three removable sliding doors that are panelled and painted white, and they each have fixed wooden louvers in their upper panels. The floor of the cabin has been painted in a geometric diamond pattern in black and cream, to simulate a floor covering. The circular wash stand is made of green painted metal with a wooden shelf and two wooden inserts to accommodate bowls. The shelf contains a beaker and two dishes all painted green. The metal framed cot is painted green with a canvas stretcher. The bookshelves, chest of drawers and table are all made in varnished wood. One chest of drawers has two long drawers and the other has two short drawers over a long one.
There is a plaque inscribed "Officer's cabin fitted with chest of drawers, bed, bookshelves, tables & c, 1860.".
