USS Peacock (1813); Warship; Sloop

Scale: Unknown. A model depicting the round-headed rudder of the American sloop USS 'Peacock'. The model has been made in mahogany and stained and polished a light brown colour. The model shows the rudder and the part of the stern to which it is fixed. A small section of deck is also shown together with a supporting deck beam, under which a brass tiller can be used to operate the rudder.

A small section of the stern itself above the rudder is shown and a hand written inscription is marked on it which reads "Model of the rudder of the American sloop Peacock. Copied from Captain Sherriff. Sent from Woolwich Yard Dec 1828". A paper label is applied to the port side of the model marked "10".
