Mast with platform and topmast

Scale:Unknown. A working model of a mast together with platform, to show how the heel of the topmast is rigged for striking (lowering and raising). It is made almost entirely of a stained and polished mahogany apart from three large iron straps and several smaller eyebolts, and two flat brass plates on either side of the mast cap. The standing part of the rope rigging is fitted to the underside of the mast cap, then through a pair of large offset sheaves within the heel of the topmast and back up through a pair of smaller sheaves again under the mast cap, through guides on the lower mast clamp and made up around a large cleat under the platform. The mast is mounted on a circular turned moulded plynth secured to an almost square baseboard.
