Queen Alexandra (1907); Fishing vessel; Smack; Prawn smack
Scale 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the prawn smack Queen Alexandra (circa 1907) made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted copper brown below the waterline, black above. Details include a narrow strake with a gold decorative line just above it, gunwale, overhanging stern and unusually shaped rudder. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard. On starboard bow ‘LN223 Queen Alexandra’. On label on the reverse of backboard ‘A building model for a Lynn Prawn Smack made and designed [sic] by Worfolk & Son, Kings Lynn 1907. She proved to be the fastest sailing boat in the Wash. These smacks had to return to port between tides and often sailed out 40 miles to their fishing grounds, making 1 or 2 hauls. Presented by T.C. Lethbridge Gr. Shelford (? illegible) Cambs.
