Fighting vessel; Junk, War

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Chinese war junk, made entirely in wood with metal fittings, and painted and varnished realistically. The hull is shallow-draught and flat-bottomed, carved from solid wood, and stained and varnished a honey-colour. The two masts are placed well forward and amidships, both rigged with set lug sails, which are decorated with broad alternating olive green and cream vertical stripes. Chinese characters are written in black calligraphy on white roundels along the port and starboard aft gunwales.

There is a large cabin at the stern whose rook sweeps upward parallel with the line of the deck profile. Four sections of roof are detachable and there is an open gallery around the cabin's port and starboard stern quarters and stern. A second, smaller, cabin in front of it, is highly decorated and ornately carved. The roof has a painted panel depicting chrysanthemums. Six doors with decorative fretwork are openable. There are two sweeps stowed on the port and starboard sides, formed from several bound lengths of timber (one sweep broken). A cannon on a fixed carriage is mounted in a forward position at the bow. There are also various flags (missing), decorative pikes (missing) and a rudder (broken off, now missing).
