Orange (1973); Cargo vessel; Fruit carrier

Builder's full hull model of the 'Orange' (1973), a specialized cargo ship for transporting fruit. Model is decked, and fully equipped and rigged. The hull is inscribed with the name ‘Orange’ on port and starboard bows, the initial ‘S’ on funnel, and ‘Orange Glasgow’ on stern. The hull is marked with load lines on port and starboard amidships, together with draught marks on either side of the bow and stern.

The model is complete with presentation plaques inscribed ‘Built of metal by Langesund Miniatyrskipbyggeri Langesund Norway Building No.439.’, ‘MV Orange’ and ‘Supercore Main dimensions: L.O.A. 155, 800m L.P.P. 143, 690m Breadth moulded 21, 700m Depth moulded to deck No.2 9865m Max., draught 9175m, Speed banana loaded 24.7 knots, DW 10, 800 tons Total hold capacity incl. hatches 479.156 cub.ft., Main engine B.& W. 2 stroke type DE9K74EF 17400 13hp 124rpm’.

This design proved to be very popular in the early 1970s and large numbers were built to cope with the increasing demand in fresh and good quality fruit from around the world.
