Service vessel; Harbour boat

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Chinese river or harbour boat, possibly designed for use as a houseboat or ferry. The model is made entirely in wood, and stained and varnished a uniform dark brown colour. The model is shallow-draught, unrigged and has a wide extension to the hull running the entire length of the port and starboard sides of the vessel, and around the bow. The keel, which extends as far as the midship, has six apertures along its length. The high stern has a covered steering position which is semi-circular in shape. A mast tabernacle is positioned immediately forward of the large cabin amidships, occupying the width of the vessel, with seating inside and a covered stowage with three removable covers. The roof of the cabin is rounded and there is a decorative panel over the forward entrance. The model is on an English South Kensington Museum-style baseboard which has rectangular supports and bun feet which are stained and varnished in the same finish as the model.
