cat-o'-nine-tails
Wooden handle with waved leather thongs attached. Marked on the handle in ink: 'Taken from Emden'. It was apparently used for beating clothes during washing. There is a similar item at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery carved with the word 'ISTEINIEIN'. It is believed to come from a German submarine sunk at Scapa Flow.
