Fighting vessel; Warboat; Burmese

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Burmese war boat made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull has been carved from a single piece of wood and the external hull and washstrakes are painted black. The interior of the hull is painted brown together with thwarts and the cross pieces and centreline plank are painted red. The hull shape is extremely long and narrow, with a shallow draught, and flat bottom. The figurehead is an elaborately carved and decorated dragons head depicted with an open mouth, and painted in white, black, red, yellow, and gold. Behind the head of the dragon are three rows of stylised scales and behind them stylised fish scales. The stern of the boat is also decoratively carved and painted depicting a serpents tail and painted in a similar style and in similar colours to the figurehead. The interior has 19 pairs of narrow thwarts and the model is equipped with 36 paddles with white blades and red shafts, and a steering oar painted red with gold detailing. The model is displayed on a pair of tall turned mahogany supports, the foremost one of which has a brass cradle to support the model.
