Passenger/cargo vessel; Indo-Chinese Barge
Scale: Unknown. A model of an Indo-Chinese barge made entirely of wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted matt white below the waterline, and dark blue above. The hull is very narrow at the bow and terminates in a point at the end of which is a figurehead or carved decoration. The bulwarks extend over the bow parallel with each other forming a frame like structure. At the stern the bulwarks sweep up terminating in a flat stern. This structure is painted red and yellow ochre. The main deck has five covered hatches whose covers consist of slatted pieces of wood that have been tied together. There is an open hatch forward of the five covered hatches. The cabin area is located toward the stern. Two enclosed areas located at the port and the stern quarters have flat roofs and two small port holes with red outlines. The roofs and sides of these enclosed areas are painted with dark blue and yellow ochre stripes. Between these enclosed areas is a tall pitched roof that sweeps up to the stern, is painted green, and has decorative barge boarding. At the front of the roof the apex is angled toward the bow of the boat. The model is equipped with a mast and what appears to be a bowsprit, both painted off white with red bottoms, and a steering oar. The model is displayed on two rectangular tapered pillar supports which are fixed to a wooden baseboard that has bevelled edges and is grained to simulate walnut. On baseboard "3".
