Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers uniform: pattern 1887
Peaked cap of blue wool for the Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers. The Cap has a black webbed band with cap badge attached. The badge features a red velvet crown worked with gold metal thread, metal thread work laurel leaves surrounding a blue velvet reserve with metal anchor with metal threadwork chain and the initials 'RNAV' embroidered in metal thread above it. The inside of the cap is lined with red silk, quilted, and has a very faded makers label in gold.
The Royal Naval Artillery Reserve or Volunteers as they were initially known, were established in 1873 and were recruited from either keen amateur sailors or those who were in the merchant service.
