Kater’s prismatic compass.
Bowl: Brass, glazed. Two spirit levels set on bottom. White bone piece marked with lubber line. Bowl stands on separate brass platform which has three adjusting screws. Front and back sights.
Card: Mica with green circular strip around outside. Graduated to 360 deg. One cross strut.
Needle: Flat bar type with pivot stud at centre.
Sights: Front: Hinged hollow arch with a sliding glazed frame. This sight operats stop mechanism when lowered. Back: Fixed prism with slit and peep hole.
