Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1774-1860
Two buttons. Domed. Smooth edge. On a smooth background is an anchor with a rope tied to the ring at the top that goes under the left-hand stock, then under the shank to the right, then back under the shank to the left, then under the left arm, curling under the crown to the right and then under the right arm. A design that was used for captain and commanders, warrant officers, midshipmen, instructors, engineers and petty officers at different times between 1774 - 1860.
