Clock model wheel
Clock model wheel with eight parts marked ZAA0283.1-8. These can be viewed via the Whole/Part toggle. Oak models showing the construction of John Harrison's wheels, pinions and arbors as used on his early wooden clocks. Large wheel sectioned and cut-away and built up from segments so that the grain of the wood runs radially through every tooth. This ensures Maximum strength and prevents warping. Diameter of wheel 6.25 ins, (16.0 cms). The pinion consistsof rollers of Lignum Vitae which revolve on fixed brass pins: this design helps to reduce friction. The pivots are formed from brass rods fixed in the oak spindles or arbors.
