Vigilant (1745)

Plan showing the starboard half of the stern board with decoration detail, starboard stern quarter gallery decoration, and starboard profile of the figurehead for Vigilant (1745), a captured French Third Rate, as taken off prior to fitting as a 58 gun Fourth Rate, two-decker. This plan may represent the vessel soon after capture.

NMM, Progress Book, volume 2, folio 179 states that 'Vigilant' (1745) was surveyed by Admiralty Order dated 8 April at Portsmouth Dockyard. She arrived on 30 April 1747 and was docked on 12 May 1747. After being undocked on 16 May the 'Vigilant' was re-docked on 11 June 1747. Having been undocked on 12 June, she sailed on 21 June 1747 after being refitted at the cost of £9,754.0s.6d. 'Vigilant' was refitted again at Portsmouth between 2 September and 28 Setpember 1747, and in June 1759 was surveyed and sold after being found to want Middling repairs.
