John Elder (1870)

A whole plate negative. A port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner John Elder (1870) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has been rebuilt with two funnels instead of the original one and an auxiliary 3 masted barque rig with three yards on each of her fore and main masts Her mizzen mast was removed about 1877. Two dumb lighters are alongside aft. Tilbury Fort is in the background.
