We Drift Like Worried Fire is Peter Iain Campbell's first photobook and brings together photography produced over the last seven years across the North Sea, from onboard the Platform Supply Vessels, to onshore decommissioning and dismantling in England, Scotland and Norway.
Iain has been photographically documenting the changing nature of the oil and gas industry in the North Sea for over 10 years.
In 2013, having had a long-held interest in deindustrialisation, Iain identified the oil and gas industry as the UK’s last remaining heavy industry and the one that had been the least explored photographically, particularly the offshore sector.
To gain the access required, Iain chose to temporarily hang up his freelance camera and sought work in the industry, finding himself as part of the stewarding core crew on a drilling rig in the central North Sea for 3 years.
Once bedded in, Iain started to document that elusive industry and the people who worked there and over the years has found himself travelling on the Platform Supply Vessels that service these installations, capturing the remaining production platforms and drilling rigs across the UK sector from a completely different perspective.
During the Covid-19 lockdown he travelled to the onshore yards that were engaged in the decommissioning and dismantling of these towering installations, as the industry slowly grapples with transitioning from fossil fuel production to a renewable energy sector.
