Join us for a unique opportunity to explore a selection of archived items from the Royal Museums Greenwich collection connecting the history and culture of Latin America through maritime histories.
Explore objects representing the diversity of Latin American history, from Francis Drake's raid on Cartagena to the construction of the Panama Canal. The collection spans five centuries and links Baja California to Tierra del Fuego. Items include an 18th century silver Spanish real, colourful sea charts made by Jesuits and pirates, and watercolours painted onboard HMS Beagle during Darwin’s famous voyage!
This bespoke offer includes a FREE guided visit to the museum collection stores and library archives with Curator of Maps and Mobilities, Tim May.
About the visits
- Explore objects which will inspire and uncover stories and connections that resonate with the rich history and journeys of Latinx across the world, such as flags, maps and photos.
- Join interactive sessions to explore maritime history and its links to Latin America.
- Take the opportunity to view selected archival objects with support from the Library and Archival Team. Find out more about how to do your own research at the Caird Library.
- A chance to share your own story, your journey and experiences. Please bring an item that reflects or reminds you of your journey.
We are particularly looking for stories connected to the Elephant and Castle area. There will be an opportunity to record your stories if you’d like to.
