Two certificates of education to Alexander Herschel from the Metropolitan School of Science, 9th November 1861.
Alexander Stewart Herschel attended the Metropolitan School of Science applied to Mining and the Arts (generally known by its later name, the Royal School of Mines) in 1861 and it was there that he began his life long study of meteors.
Commission to Alexander Herschel as Ensign in 38th group of Kent Rifle Volunteers, 3rd November 1863.
The 38th group of the Kent Rifle Volunteers were formed at Hawkhurst in Kent in 1861. Various members wrote to John Herschel around this time asking for his support. This was the local group to the Herschels.
Grant of honorary Science certificate to Alexander Herschel on account of University degree by the Lords Commissioners of the Committee of Council Education, 12th May 1868.
Alexander Stewart Herschel was by this time, by 1868, Professor of Mechanical and Experimental Physics at Anderson College, Glasgow (now Strathclyde University).
