Letters from John Short to Ella Ambrose September 1930 to June 1931.
All letters headed 'HMT "NEURALIA" C/o Escombe McGrath 18 Canute Rd'. Short is working aboard the NEURALIA, Ambrose is living in Southampton, so they are seeing each other quite regularly. 28th September 1930 he apologises for some social faux-pas with a friend of Ambrose's. 14th May 1931 he asks to see Ambrose on Sunday. 10th June he again asks her out to the pictures. 23rd June he writes again about their plans to meet, and about his friend Jessop, his 'partner in crime'. 25th June he apologises for not being able to meet that night due to his injury playing up. 27th June he explains he was diagnosed with blood poisoning. 29th June he says he is sorry he is unable to come ashore, being under strict instructions to rest.
