Letters from John Short to Ella Ambrose August to December 1931 (none for September).

1 August 1931, it is unclear which ship he is writing from, but he refers to a 'feastaval' with a meal of curry in the 'native style'. Short writes about an excursion to London with Jessop (a friend) in order to visit Greenwich Hospital to see a Doctor about his leg (humorously referring to Elephant and Castle as 'Jumbo and Fortification'). Later in August he writes from Newcastle-on-Tyne, where he is on leave for a few weeks visiting his family. By 9th October he is writing aboard HMT NEURALIA at Southampton Docks, and continues writing each day on the voyage to Gibraltar. By 21st October he is on the Red Sea, and writes for the next 9 days on the voyage to Colombo. The next letter is dated 26th November, on the return journey from China, and by the 7th December, he is writing again from Suez Port (Port Taufiq). His writing from December is very detailed as he reflects on 'one of the queerest trips I have ever been on'.
