Miscellaneous papers and newspaper cuttings, 1851-1861.

(1) Newspaper cutting with official dispatches following the attack on Lagos by the squadron of Commodore Henry W. Bruce on 26 December 1851 and the expulsion of the slave-trading chief Kosoko and his followers. A list of casualties among the crew members of HMS PENELOPE (1843) and her tender HMS TEAZER (1846) is included.
(2) Single sheet with a handwritten list of ward room and gun room officers, relating to Alexander's service as flag lieutenant to his father-in-law Rear-Admiral Henry W. Bruce on HMS MONARCH (1832) on the Pacific station in 1855-1858.
(3) Single sheet from the newspaper ‘El Peruano Extraordinario’ published in Lima, Peru, on 13 August 1857. With details of funeral arrangements following the assassination of the British Consul General Stephen H. Sulivan on 11 August.
(4) Telegraph message (The Electric and International Telegraph Company) sent by Alexander from HMS LYRA (1857) to Vice-Admiral Sir Henry W. Bruce, Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth, confirming his arrival at Portland. The message was forwarded from Weymouth and received at the Portsea station on 19 December 1861.
