Letter from Captain Sir Thomas Hastings, 1840.
Letter to Dobbie serving as lieutenant on HMS BELLEISLE (1819) at Malta, sent via the French packet at Marseilles, from Captain Sir Thomas Hastings at the Royal Naval College, Portsmouth, dated 9 March 1840. It replies to a letter from Dobbie dated 15 February concerning a misunderstanding between the commander of the BELLEISLE and himself. As requested, Hastings makes a statement regarding his opinion of Dobbie’s conduct during the time he was on the gunnery training ship HMS EXCELLENT ex BOYNE (1810).
