Various notes and sketches:

(1) Small booklet containing a list of mates passed prior to 1 January 1835 who were serving in June 1836. It includes W.H. Dobbie passed on 31 January 1831.
(2) Sketch of a flintlock musket, with a section through the barrel to show the powder, shot and wadding inside. It records how the ‘favourite fowling piece’ of the midshipmen on HMS MAGICIENNE (1831) was charged on a memorable occasion. Dobbie was extra mate and then college mate on the MAGICIENNE between 1835 and 1838.
(3) Notes on yacht design and competition rules, with mention of Philip R. Marett’s ‘Yachts and Yacht Building: Being a Treatise on the Construction of Yachts’ and Edwin Brett’s ‘Notes on Yachts’, first published in 1865.
