Receipts for the NEPTUNE, 1796-1815.

Receipts for expenses of the East India Company ship NEPTUNE (1796), covering Voyages 1 to 6, during which William Fraser was principal managing owner. See item level records.

The NEPTUNE was built by Wells at Deptford and entered service for the East India Company in 1796. The records here suggest she was built as a replacement for the EARL OF MANSFIELD (1777). In August 1800 the NEPTUNE was in a convoy of East Indiamen escorted by HMS BELLIQUEUX (1780) that was in action with a French squadron off the coast of Brazil and resulted in the capture of the frigates CONCORDE and LA MEDEE.
