6 Beige files containing the various writings of Liet.-Commdr H.B. Deedes, R.N. The first folder contains newspaper cuttings relating to the entrance and promotion system of the army, with the main text a Lecture titled, 'Promotion from Lower Deck to Wardroom Rank. Is Warrant Rank a Necessary Step?'. The second is a further lecture, this time on the effect of the Washington Conference on the naval defences of the British Empire. The third is simply titled Inclination Reader, and relates to an item designed by Deedes for "translating the change in rate into terms of enemy's speed and inclination...". The fourth contains a hand written piece on the Battle of the Fawklands. The fifth, an assortment of items, including newspaper cuttings, photographs and notebooks relating to naval and military operations in the Dardenelles in 1915. Finally, the sixth file contains a number of handwritten documents focussing on the surrender of the German fleet in 1914. It includes newspaper cuttings, a handwritten notebook on the subject of fleet formations, squadrons deployed, battleships, as well as additional pages of free standing notes covering similar subjects.
