This visitors book is in the handwriting of Sir William Herschel and his sister Caroline Herschel between 1783 to 1846. After the death of Sir William Herschel, Caroline kept the book for personal visitors following her retirement. Among the names written in the book are Sir Joseph Banks, Mr Cavendish, Mr Watts, Mr Cassini, the King and Queen of England, William Franklin and the Duke of Orleans. At the back of the book is a list of people who were presented with copies of Sir William Herschel's Lithographic portrait.
