Papers relating to the search for SMS DRESDEN, 1914 - 1915.
Papers relating to the search for the German light cruiser SMS DRESDEN (1907) in 1914 - 1915 and the service of Captain Robert F.U.P. Fitzgerald. They include an extract of a letter written by Fitzgerald at the time of the events, and a letter to his daughter from Commander Claude L.A. Woollard, President of the Bournemouth Branch of the Royal Naval Association, dated 12 January 1966. Woollard was researching the presence of the sailing ships FAIRPORT (1896), TAMAR (1889) and WILLIAM P. FRYE (1901) in the vicinity of the Battle of the Falkland Islands as part of his book ‘The Last of the Cape Horners’, published in 1967.
