Papers from the period of Thursfield’s command of the battleship HMS ROYAL OAK (1914), flagship of the First Battle Squadron in the Mediterranean, between 1930 and 1932. Including a letter thanking Thursfield for his services in connection with the Committee on W/T and V/S Organisation, dated 25 April 1930. A typescript memorandum regarding the findings of a Court of Enquiry into the passing of a merchant ship through the line of the First Battle Squadron on 8 August 1930, issued by Admiral Sir Alfred E.M. Chatfield at Malta, dated 26 August 1930. A file of papers regarding reductions in pay, relating to the supplementary budget announced in the House of Commons by Philip Snowden, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in September 1931. Typescript documents relating to mine storage, including a report of the committee appointed to enquire into the arrangements for storing mines and the general situation concerning mine depots, dated 13 October 1931. Also an earlier statement of views made by Thursfield, relating to his membership of the Usborne Mine Storage Committee.
