A letter from Nelson to his brother-in-law, George Matcham, with enclosure from William Haslewood.
A letter from Nelson to his brother-in-law, George Matcham, 23 December 1802, discussing affairs at Merton during the peace. This letter also includes Emma’s description of Nelson’s reception at court (in June both Nelson and Sir William Hamilton had been snubbed by the King. Emma sees this as a sign of acceptance of their relationship by high society). The real purpose of the letter is apparent from its enclosure, a note from Nelson’s lawyer, William Haslewood, detailing the terms of a loan from George Matcham.
