Correspondence and related papers, 1946-1971

Mainly correspondence with the National Maritime Museum, including the redecoration of Henrietta Maria's bedroom in the Queen's House, in Oman's capacity as a Trustee at the National Maritime Museum (1963). Also newspaper clipping of Sir Geoffrey Callender's funeral.

Administrative / biographical background
Sir Geoffrey Callendar (1875-1946) was an English naval historian and the first Director of the National Maritime Museum from its opening in 1937 until his death in 1946. Queen Henrietta Maria (1609-1669) was a patron of the arts, and instructed Inigo Jones to restart work on the Queen's House. The building was completed in 1635, but the Queen only briefly enjoyed the House she had helped to complete; she escaped the Civil War in 1642, fleeing to her native France. Carola Oman had written a biography of Henrietta Maria in 1936.
