Administrative / biographical background
Lady Georgiana Llangattok (1837-1923) was a British socialite, benefactor and Nelson enthusiast. She bequeathed her collection to the town of Monmouth, including the five bound volumes of letters written by Nelson to his wife (1785-1800). Rear Admiral Henry George Thursfield (1882-1963) entered the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1897, and was awarded the Order of The Nile in the First Wolrld War for his distinguished service. In 1920 he became Assistant Director of the Royal Naval College. In retirement he began writing on naval subjects and was a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum 1948-1955.
