Uncatalogued Diary kept by Able Seaman L.A. Dawes on board HMS EURYALUS from 1914 to 1917.

HMS EURYALUS took part in the battle of Heligoland Bight (28 August, 1914). Supported British troops in Gallipoli with Naval gunfire (25 April 1915 - 9 January 1916). Begins with a list of ports of call and tons of coal used, the diary details life of board of EURYALUS with notes on training and the ship in action. Diary ends on page 36, the remainder contains notes about ports, Life and customs of Hindus, list of parcels to and from home as well as a few addresses.

Administrative / biographical background
Born in Glasslough, Ireland 1878 he ran off to sea due to not being in faour with step-mother and joined the Royal Navy 1896 as Boy 2nd Class and served until 1905. On the outbreak of war he transfered to Royal Fleet Reserve and joined the EURYALUE
