Leave chit for Robert Paulett , ordinary seaman, HMS DEFYANCE, signed by Admiral Sir Clowdesley Shovell.

The chit is for leave from the 18 to the 25 of February but is undated. It refers to 'their Majesties Ship', presumably William and Mary, who ruled jointly between 1689 and 1694. Robert Paulett appears to have been an ordinary seaman. Sir Admiral Clowdesley Shovell [Sir Admiral Cloudesley Shovell] was not commander of HMS DEFYANCE [DEFIANCE] but was appointed an extra commissioner of the Navy Board on 16 April 1693. This suggests the document dates from 1694.
The chit is stamped with the official seal of the Navy Office.
