Copy of Sir Isaac Newton's opinion, as expressed at a Committee meeting, 11 Jun 1714, re: methods for determining longitude at sea: 'by a watch to keep time exactly'; 'by the eclipses of Jupiter's satellites'; and 'by the place of the Moon'. With a note, dated 16 January 1741/2, that the first method would be the best, as agreed by: Martin Folkes; Robert Smith; James Bradley; J Colson; George Grahame; Edmund Halley; William Jones; George, Earl of Macclesfield; James Jurin; Charles Cavendish; Abraham de Moivre; and John Hadley.
