Midshipman's journal kept by Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair, 1891-1892.
Leather bound volume containing logs and journals kept by Hugh Francis Paget Sinclair as a midshipman, 14 June 1891 to 15 December 1892. During this period he served on the battleships HMS VICTORIA (1887) and HMS BENBOW (1885) in the Mediterranean, then briefly under the Director of Works at Portsmouth. Towards the end of 1891 he travelled to Bermuda, first taking a passage to Halifax on the storeship HMS TYNE (purchased 1878). He then served on the battleship HMS BELLEROPHON (1865), the composite screw corvette HMS PYLADES (1884) and the cruiser HMS BLAKE (1889) on the North America station. The volume includes technical drawings and track charts.
