Bound volume containing a journal of instructions for medical officers of the Royal Navy, used while on board HMS TOPAZE (1858) and HMS RESISTANCE (1861), between 1868 and 1872. The subjects covered include changes in terminology for particular diseases, the abolition of a separate sick mess fund, and methods for the production of particular medicines. There are also tables for filling in details of a surgeon's cases and accounts.
