Anne Dixon née Gardner was the sister of Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner (1742-1809). She was born at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, in 1733. She was the eldest daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel William Gardner of the 11th Regiment of Dragoons, and his wife Elizabeth Gardner, eldest daughter of Valentine Farington of Preston, county of Lancaster. She married Thomas Dixon, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
