Administrative / biographical background
The source was a Spanish derrotero captured by Captain Sharpe in the 'Trinity' (with Ringrose on board) from the Spanish ship 'Rosario' off modern Ecuador on 29 July 1681. Ringrose related that Isla de la Plata was where Drake shared out the plate captured from the Spaniards, though much had to be heaved overboard because the ship could not carry it all.
