Administrative / biographical background
The source was a Spanish derrotero captured by Captain Sharpe in the 'Trinity' (with Ringrose on board) from the Spanish ship 'Rosario' off modern Ecuador on 29 July 1681. Arica was the port where silver from the Potosi mine was loaded for transport to Lima. The buccaneers attacked it in January 1680.
