Administrative / biographical background
The source was a Spanish derrotero captured by Captain Sharpe in the 'Trinity' (with Ringrose on board) from the Spanish ship 'Rosario' off modern Ecuador on 29 July 1681. In the text, Ringrose cites the skulls at the fort of Linga as evidence for Spanish massacres of the natives.
