Midshipman's journal kept by John Ronald Gower on HMS SHROPSHIRE, HMS BOADICEA and HMS ACASTA, 1931 to 1932.
Midshipman's journal kept by John Ronald Gower between 8 August 1931 and 29 August 1932. During most of this period Gower was on the cruiser HMS SHROPSHIRE (1928), with the First Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean. Between 28 August and 22 December 1931 he was training on the destroyer HMS BOADICEA (1930). He left HMS SHROPSHIRE with the rank of acting sub-lieutenant on 20 August 1932 and was appointed to the destroyer HMS ACASTA (1929) for the passage to Devonport. The journal includes sketches, technical drawings, charts and programmes for sporting events. One of the charts shows the First World War battlefield and cemeteries at Cape Helles.
