Island of Procida, Vesuvius and coast of Surentum from Ischia, 13th April 1791

Medium includes graphite. Inscribed by the artist in pencil 'Island of Procida' continuing in ink 'Vesuvius and coast of Surentum [Sorrento] from Ischia, 13th April 1791 J.T. Serres [illegible word] di Napoli'. The view is therefore south-east from the east end of Ischia. A drawing from Serres' tour in the Mediterranean, primarily Italy: Abbott and Holder dispersed a collection of figure studies from this around 2002-03. [PvdM 7/07]
