Technique includes etching. One of a set of images by the London marine artist Henry Moses (c. 1782 - 1870), best known for his 1820s series, 'Sketches of Shipping', covering dock scenes on the Thames. See notes for PAD7999. The ships identified by inscriptions under the image are 'Victory' (104 guns), the Portsmouth flagship, left; the 'Royal Sovereign' yacht carrying the Duke of Clarence, centre, and the 'Wellesley', 74 guns, right. The view looks north into the harbour with the dockyard buildings on the right.
