The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Zulu (1962) alongside the Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd fitting out berth at Linthouse, Glasgow during the final stages of building prior to 16 April 1964. The photographer is in the machinery control room between 59 and 61½ stations on the centreline of 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from the doorway showing the centre and starboard panels of main machinery control console which control the steam turbine machinery. The communications desk is in the centre with a telephone exchange panel and five handsets against the starboard bulkhead. Also against the starboard bulkhead is the builder's plate showing the ship to be yard number 674, built in 1964 and with steam turbine by Parsons Marine and gas turbine by J I Thornycroft. The hatch leading down to 3 deck is open.
