'Scott leaving the 'Morning' after a week-end visit.'

A full-length informal portrait photograph of Captain Robert Falcon Scott in full Antarctic clothing on two skis with one ski-pole in his hand. He is looking out to the right of the image through a tightly closed hood. The use of one ski-pole was very common in this period, although by his second expedition the use of two poles had become the norm. Behind Scott is the port bow of the relief ship Morning (1871) and a sledge with a wooden box strapped to it.

William Colbeck was appointed captain of the relief ship Morning in order to resupply Scott and assist with freeing the Discovery (1901). He undertook two voyages, the second in 1903-04 when the Morning and Terra Nova crews assisted in breaking Discovery free from the ice in McMurdo Sound.

The original print in the album is captioned: 'Scott leaving the 'Morning' after a week-end visit.'
