A British naval officer being carried ashore 'piggy-back' by a Fijian from a Fijian single-hulled boat. In the background are a couple of other Europeans being carried ashore. To the right are cutter-rigged yachts anchored off shore. Two Fijians are standing in the water at the bow of the boat, and another is squatting on the gunwales in the bows in conversation.
Lt. Surtees was on board the light cruiser HMS Danae (1918) from October 1923 during the British Special Service Squadron world tour. They visited Fiji between 21 and 27 May 1924 before departing for Honolulu, arriving in early June.
