Z Beach at the south end of Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli peninsula.

Z Beach at the south end of Anzac Cove, north of Gaba Tepe, on the Gallipoli peninsula. The photographer is looking north along the beach from the low cliff above the beach. On 25 April 1915 four Australian and one New Zealand Infantry Brigades and one Indian Mountain Artillery Brigade landed at Anzac Cove north and south of Hell Spit. Z Beach was south of Hell Spit and after the landings was used as a bathing beach, hence it was christened Brighton Beach by the troops. A large number of tourists are on the clifftop or are at the water's edge and a few are paddling. The negative is captioned Brighton Beach, Gallipoli.
